The story behind In The Groove
Hey, I'm Rick

at Streetlight Records in Santa Cruz, CA
I've been collecting vinyl for about 15 years. For almost that long, I've wanted something simple — something I was sure someone would eventually build: a way to keep track of what I was actually listening to. Not just what I owned, but what was making it onto the turntable.
Then I replaced my stylus and had another thought: wouldn't it be great to know how many hours I'd actually put on the new one?
So I built In The Groove for myself. I told a few friends about it, they wanted in, they told their friends… and here we are.
What is In The Groove?
In The Groove is a companion app for vinyl collectors. It connects to your Discogs account to pull in your collection, then lets you track listening sessions, get reminders to flip the record, monitor your stylus wear, scan album art to start sessions, and explore your listening stats.
It's designed to be simple, fast, and something you actually enjoy using while you're spinning records.
Why does this exist?
This is a passion project. I'm a CTO by day at a wholesale distributor, but vinyl is my thing — and building tools that make the hobby more fun is how I unwind. In The Groove isn't backed by a big team or venture capital. It's just me, building something I want to use every day, and sharing it with people who feel the same way about their record collections.
What's next?
I'm always working on new features and improvements. In The Groove is a living project — it gets better every week. If you have ideas for what you'd like to see, or if something doesn't feel right, I'd genuinely love to hear from you.
The best way to share feedback is through the Send Feedback button in the app (you'll find it in the menu at the top right). Bug reports, feature requests — every piece of feedback gets read.
